BPSC TRE 4.0 Age Limit: Two Cut-off Dates, Maximum Age by Category and Relaxation
Sarkari Naukri Khabar • Bihar
BPSC TRE 4.0 checks age against two different dates: the minimum on 1 August 2026 and the maximum on 1 August 2024. This guide sets out, from Advertisement 14/2026, the minimum age for each level, the maximum age for each category, the relaxation for government servants, disabled candidates and ex-servicemen, the five-attempt limit, and why the date of birth you enter in OTR can never be changed.
Two different dates
Advertisement 14/2026 counts the minimum age as on 1 August 2026. The maximum age is counted as on 1 August 2024, under letter 212 of the Bihar Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department dated 23 January 2006.
So when you check the upper limit, work out your age on 1 August 2024, not on 1 August 2026. Many candidates rule themselves out by using the wrong date.
Minimum age
Checked on 1 August 2026:
- Classes 1 to 5 and classes 6 to 8: 18 years
- Classes 9 to 10 and classes 11 to 12: 21 years
Maximum age by category
Checked on 1 August 2024:
- Unreserved men: 37 years
- Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class, men and women: 40 years
- Unreserved women: 40 years
- Transgender: 42 years
- SC and ST, men and women: 42 years
Relaxation over the maximum age
The advertisement allows these relaxations. Each one needs a certificate from the competent authority, and without it the claim is not accepted.
- Teachers appointed and working in panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies: the maximum age limit is relaxed.
- Regular Bihar government servants: 5 years, but only if they have not yet used 5 attempts. Across their whole service, Bihar government servants get at most 5 attempts in all BPSC competitive examinations, counted from 12 December 2022.
- Disabled candidates: an additional 10 years, under General Administration Department resolution 962 dated 22 January 2021.
- Ex-servicemen: 3 years plus the period of service in the armed forces, provided their actual age on the date of applying is not more than 57 years.
Two groups with special treatment
Candidates with the 18-month NIOS D.El.Ed who were not allowed to sit Advertisement 22/2024 despite being qualified have their maximum age counted on 1 August 2023, the cut-off of that earlier advertisement. This follows a Supreme Court order in a contempt petition decided on 5 May 2025.
A separate Supreme Court order of 1 August 2025 gave a one-time opportunity to petitioners in one case to take part despite being over age. The advertisement limits that benefit to the petitioners covered by the case. It does not extend to anyone else.
Five attempts in total
Under the Bihar State School Teacher amendment rules of 2024, a candidate can take this examination at most five times.
Your date of birth is fixed at OTR
The advertisement lists the matriculation certificate as the proof of date of birth. Enter your date of birth exactly as it appears there. Once One Time Registration is complete there is no way to change the name, parents' names, gender, Aadhaar number or date of birth entered in it.
