BPSC TRE 4.0 Eligibility: Which TET You Need for Each Class, and the STET 2026 Condition

Sarkari Naukri Khabar  •  Bihar

BPSC TRE 4.0 has 32,388 school teacher posts across four levels, and each level asks for a different teacher eligibility test and a different degree. This guide sets out, from Advertisement 14/2026, which TET paper each level needs, the CTET pass marks BPSC accepts, the condition for candidates who are still to appear in STET 2026, the qualifications for each level, and the rule that every certificate must be dated by 30 September 2026.

Four levels, four sets of rules

The Bihar Public Service Commission published Advertisement 14/2026 on 18 August 2026 for the fourth phase of the school teacher recruitment examination, TRE 4.0: 32,388 posts of school teacher under the Education Department. The posts are split into four levels, and eligibility is decided level by level. Work out your level first, because a qualification that is enough for one level can be useless for another.

The advertisement notes that the numbers can go up or down if the Education Department revises its requisition, and that posts in some further subjects will be notified separately once the supplementary requisition arrives.

  • Classes 1 to 5 (primary): 3,847 posts, starting pay scale ₹25,000 plus state allowances
  • Classes 6 to 8 (middle): 8,563 posts, starting pay scale ₹28,000 plus state allowances
  • Classes 9 to 10 (secondary): 3,877 posts, basic pay ₹31,000 a month plus allowances
  • Classes 11 to 12 (higher secondary): 16,101 posts, basic pay ₹32,000 a month plus allowances

The TET paper each level needs

Every candidate must have passed a teacher eligibility test held by the state or central government. The advertisement names the paper for each level:

  • Classes 1 to 5: CTET Paper-I or BTET Paper-I
  • Classes 6 to 8: CTET Paper-II or BTET Paper-II
  • Classes 9 to 10, and special school teacher for classes 9 to 10: STET Paper-I
  • Classes 11 to 12: STET Paper-II

Pass marks: the CTET figure depends on where you are from

For CTET, BPSC applies the pass marks set for BTET 2017, under Education Department letter 581 dated 17 June 2023: 60 percent for general category candidates, 55 percent for Backward Class, Extremely Backward Class and general category women, and 50 percent for SC, ST and disabled candidates. For STET, the pass mark set by the Bihar School Examination Board applies.

The advertisement adds one line that catches many candidates from other states: for all men and women from outside Bihar, the minimum marks are those of the general category. A UP candidate with 57 percent in CTET does not meet it, whatever their category at home.

Teachers appointed before 2012 and still working, who pass the competency test, do not need a teacher eligibility test.

Still to appear in STET 2026? You can apply, on one condition

Candidates who hold the academic qualification, have finished teacher training and are going to appear in STET 2026 may apply. But they must pass STET 2026 before the preliminary examination. If they do not pass it, BPSC will not issue them an admit card.

Such candidates must give a self-declaration at the time of applying, in the format on the BPSC website, and must produce the original STET 2026 admit card and result whenever the Commission asks for them.

The degree and training for each level

The qualifications follow NCTE rules and the list in the advertisement is long. These are the main routes. Read the full list in the advertisement before you pay.

  • Classes 1 to 5: Intermediate with at least 50 percent (45 percent under the NCTE 2002 regulations) and a two-year diploma in elementary education, or a four-year B.El.Ed, or a two-year diploma in special education, or graduation with a two-year diploma in elementary education. B.Ed is not in the list for this level.
  • Classes 6 to 8: graduation with a two-year diploma in elementary education, or graduation or postgraduation with at least 50 percent and B.Ed, or 45 percent with B.Ed under NCTE rules, or a four-year B.El.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed after Intermediate with 50 percent. Social science needs two of history, geography, political science, philosophy, economics, commerce, psychology, sociology and home science at graduation; maths and science needs two of maths, statistics, physics, chemistry and biology.
  • Classes 9 to 10: graduation or postgraduation in the subject with at least 50 percent and B.Ed, or 45 percent under the 2002 and 2007 NCTE regulations, or a four-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. For social science, two of history, geography, economics and political science, and one of them must be history or geography.
  • Classes 11 to 12: postgraduation in the subject with at least 50 percent and B.Ed, or 45 percent under the 2002 and 2007 NCTE regulations, or a four-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed, or 55 percent with a three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed. B.Ed is not required for computer science.

Relaxation in marks, and the NIOS diploma

SC, ST, Extremely Backward Class, Backward Class and disabled candidates get a relaxation of 5 percent in the minimum marks for the academic and training qualification, at every level.

Following a Supreme Court order, the 18-month D.El.Ed awarded by NIOS is valid. The advertisement says it is accepted for teachers who were working before 10 August 2017.

One subject only, the one you passed TET in

You can choose only one subject, and it must be a subject in which you passed the teacher eligibility test. If you passed TET in more than one subject, you still pick one.

Commerce at classes 11 to 12 has three subjects: entrepreneurship, accountancy and business studies. A candidate who passed TET in commerce can apply for any one of the three. A candidate who passed it in one of those three specifically can apply only in that subject.

Every certificate must be dated by 30 September 2026

All certificates, including academic, training, experience and TET or competency test certificates, must have been issued by 30 September 2026, the last date to apply. A certificate issued after that date will not be accepted. The advertisement also says that if the last date is extended, the date for eligibility will not move with it.
