BTSC Bihar 2026: 1,129 Posts in Four Recruitments, and Which One You Can Apply For

The Bihar Technical Service Commission has four recruitments open at once, closing on 23 and 24 October 2026: Touring Veterinary Officer (787 posts), Fishery Extension Officer (231), Food Safety Officer (105) and Scientific Assistant (6). That is 1,129 posts in all. They look similar because the fee, the age rule and the exam pattern are shared, but the qualification for each is completely different, and applying for the wrong one wastes both the fee and the deadline. This guide sets out what each recruitment needs.

The four, at a glance

All four were advertised within two days of each other and all four close within two days of each other. The pay level is the clearest signal of what each one expects.

787 posts: Touring Veterinary Officer

This is the largest of the four by a wide margin, and the narrowest in who can apply. It sits in the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department at pay Level 9, Rs 53,100 to 1,67,800.

You need a B.V.Sc. or a B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree from a university recognised by the Veterinary Council of India, and you must be registered with the Bihar Veterinary Council. There is no alternative route. If you do not hold a veterinary degree, this recruitment is closed to you however well you would do in the exam.

231 posts: Fishery Extension Officer

Also in the Animal and Fisheries Resources Department, under the Directorate of Fisheries, at pay Level 7. The advertisement sets out its own prescribed qualification, which is not the veterinary degree that 27/2026 asks for.

Do not assume that because both sit in the same department, one qualification covers both. They are separate advertisements with separate requirements, and a single application goes to a single advertisement.

105 posts: Food Safety Officer, the widest door

This one accepts the broadest range of backgrounds of the four. It is in the Health Department at revised pay Level 6, and the qualification list is long: a degree, master's or doctorate in food technology, dairy technology, biotechnology, oil technology, agricultural science, veterinary science, biochemistry, microbiology or chemistry.

Beyond that, a postgraduate or doctoral degree in one of the listed food technology subjects qualifies, and so does one in the listed agricultural science subjects. A medical degree in allopathy, Ayurveda or Unani from a recognised authority also qualifies.

• Food technology subjects named: food engineering, food engineering and technology, food processing and preservation, food processing and technology, food technology and management, food biotechnology, food plant operations management, food process engineering and management, food processing, food safety and quality management, process and food engineering
• Agricultural science subjects named: agriculture, agricultural engineering, biotechnology, dairy technology, fisheries, food technology, food nutrition and dietetics, horticulture

6 posts: Scientific Assistant

The smallest, in the State Drug Control Laboratory under the Health Department, at pay Level 5. Six posts: three unreserved, one SC, one Extremely Backward Class and one Backward Class, with one of the six reserved for women.

With six posts and no reservation at all for disabled candidates or the descendants of freedom fighters, the competition will be heavy. Read the qualification in the notification itself before you pay.

What is the same across all four

Once you know which one fits you, the mechanics are identical, which is the one convenience here.

• Fee: Rs 100, online only, by debit card, credit card, internet banking or UPI, with bank charges on top
• Age: counted as on 1 August 2026, minimum 21 years
• Apply at btsc.bihar.gov.in, online only
• Reservation: only for permanent residents of Bihar
• Certificates: every one must be issued on or before the closing date of the advertisement you apply to

One application, one advertisement

Each advertisement is its own recruitment with its own application and its own Rs 100. If you are eligible for two, you apply to each separately and pay for each separately.

What you cannot do is apply twice within one advertisement. Work out which of the four your degree actually fits before you pay, because after payment the choice is fixed and a cancelled payment is not refunded.
