Railway Recruitment Board has invited online applications under CEN 03/2026 for 119 posts of Section Controller in Indian Railways. Graduates in any discipline aged 20-33 years meeting A-2 medical fitness standards are eligible. Applications close on 14 August 2026 at 11:59 PM, with fee payment allowed until 16 August 2026.
What this recruitment is about
A Section Controller is one of the most responsible jobs in Indian Railways. Sitting in the divisional control office, this person decides which train moves, which one waits, and how the whole section keeps running safely through the day. Nothing on the track moves without the control office knowing about it.
Railway Recruitment Board has opened 119 such posts under CEN 03/2026. This is a small recruitment compared to Group D or Technician drives, so competition per seat is high, but so is the pay level and the standing of the post.
Who can apply
You need a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university. The subject does not matter, a B.A., B.Com, B.Sc or engineering degree are all acceptable.
The age window is 20 to 33 years, with the usual relaxations for reserved categories as per railway rules. Because this post involves continuous night duty and constant signalling work, candidates must also meet the A-2 medical standard, which sets stricter requirements for vision and hearing than most railway posts.
- Graduate in any stream from a recognised university
- Age between 20 and 33 years, relaxation as per rules
- A-2 medical fitness: good eyesight and hearing are essential
How to apply, step by step
Applications are accepted only online through the RRB portal. Applications sent by post or email are simply not considered.
- Open rrbapply.gov.in and create an account if you do not already have one
- Complete the common registration with your personal and educational details
- Select CEN 03/2026: Section Controller, and choose your preferred RRB zone
- Upload your photograph and signature in the sizes the portal specifies
- Pay the fee online and save the confirmation
- Download the final submitted form and keep a printout
Dates you must not miss
The application window closes on 14 August 2026 at 11:59 PM. Fee payment is allowed slightly later, until 16 August 2026, but do not rely on that gap, if the payment fails on the last night, your form stays incomplete.
Apply at least three or four days early. Railway portals slow down badly in the final 48 hours when lakhs of candidates log in together.
Selection process
Selection is through a computer-based test, followed by document verification and the medical examination. The medical stage matters more here than in most railway recruitments, candidates clear the written exam and are still rejected at A-2 medical for eyesight. If you wear spectacles, get your vision checked before you apply so you know where you stand.
Common mistakes candidates make
- Uploading a photograph that does not meet the size or background rules, causing rejection at scrutiny
- Filling the category column wrong: it cannot be changed after final submission
- Assuming the fee deadline is the application deadline; the form must be submitted by 14 August
- Ignoring the A-2 medical standard until after the exam result
