Transgender Candidates in Bihar Recruitment: Which Category, Which Age Limit, Which Certificate
Sarkari Naukri Khabar • Bihar
Bihar places transgender candidates in the Backward Classes for reservation purposes, and BPSC sets their maximum age at 42 years, the highest of any category in TRE 4.0. Both come from specific General Administration Department orders, and both are routinely missed because no advertisement puts them in one place. This guide sets out the category, the age limit, the certificate required and the posts reserved in the recruitments open now.
The category: Backward Classes
Under General Administration Department resolution 12722 dated 12 September 2014, किन्नर, कोथी, हिजड़ा and transgender (third gender) candidates receive the benefit of the reservation available to the Backward Classes. BPSC states this in Advertisement 14/2026 and the BTSC advertisements carry the same provision.
A later order makes it more specific. Under General Administration Department letter 10579 dated 15 June 2026, transgender candidates are entered at serial number 47 in the list of Backward Classes notified for Bihar, Schedule 2, and receive horizontal reservation as per the vacancies described in the advertisement.
The age limit: 42 years
In TRE 4.0 the maximum age for transgender candidates is 42 years, counted as on 1 August 2024, the same as for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and five years above the 37 allowed to unreserved men.
The minimum age is unchanged: 18 years for classes 1 to 8 and 21 years for classes 9 to 12, counted as on 1 August 2026.
The certificate
A candidate claiming this reservation must produce a certificate of being transgender, issued by the competent authority prescribed by the state government, together with proof of being a permanent resident of Bihar. Like every reservation in these advertisements, it is for Bihar's permanent residents only.
The claim must be made in the column provided in the online application. A claim not made there brings no benefit, and the advertisements provide no route to adding it afterwards.
The posts in TRE 4.0
Advertisement 14/2026 prints a separate column for transgender candidates in each of its four vacancy tables.
- Classes 1 to 5: 4 posts of 3,847
- Classes 6 to 8: 9 posts of 8,563
- Classes 9 to 10: 7 posts of 3,877
- Classes 11 to 12: 7 posts of 16,101
- In all: 27 posts across the four levels
The gender entered in OTR cannot be changed
This matters more here than anywhere else. The BPSC advertisement states that the name, father's name, mother's name, gender, Aadhaar number and date of birth entered during One Time Registration can never be changed afterwards. There is no provision for it.
So the gender recorded at registration is the one the application carries through document verification and appointment. Enter it deliberately, and with the certificate in hand, before completing OTR.
One relaxation, not several
As with every other candidate, only one age relaxation is given, whichever applies. A transgender candidate who is also a government servant or a disabled candidate takes the single relaxation that helps most, not both added together.
