Qualification
A degree, master's or doctorate from a recognised university in food technology, dairy technology, biotechnology, oil technology, agricultural science, veterinary science, biochemistry, microbiology or chemistry; or a postgraduate or doctoral degree in one of the listed food technology subjects (food engineering, food processing and preservation, food biotechnology, food safety and quality management and others) or agricultural science subjects (agriculture, agricultural engineering, dairy technology, fisheries, food nutrition and dietetics, horticulture and others). A Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery or Unani Medicine and Surgery from a recognised authority also qualifies. Every certificate must be dated on or before 24 October 2026.

The Bihar Technical Service Commission has advertised 105 posts of Food Safety Officer in the Health Department, on requisition 19352 of 10 October 2025, at revised pay Level 6. The category split is 41 unreserved, 11 EWS, 17 SC, 2 ST, 18 Extremely Backward Class, 12 Backward Class and 4 Backward Class women, and 34 of the 105 are for women under Bihar's 35 per cent horizontal reservation. The qualification is wide: a degree, master's or doctorate in food technology, dairy technology, biotechnology, oil technology, agricultural science, veterinary science, biochemistry, microbiology or chemistry, or a postgraduate degree in one of the listed food technology or agricultural science subjects, or a medical degree in allopathy, Ayurveda or Unani. Applications run from 25 September to 24 October 2026 at btsc.bihar.gov.in, the fee is Rs 100 online only, and age is counted as on 1 August 2026. Selection is a single two-hour computer based test of 100 multiple choice questions worth 100 marks, in Hindi and English, with 0.25 deducted for each wrong answer and normalisation applied. The qualifying marks are 40 per cent general, 36.5 per cent Backward Class, 34 per cent SC, ST and Extremely Backward Class, and 32 per cent women and disabled candidates; candidates from outside Bihar need 40 per cent.
