SSC CPO 2026 Category Certificates: Formats, the Crucial Date, and What Gets Rejected
Sarkari Naukri Khabar • All India
A reserved-category claim is lost more often on paperwork than on marks. SSC's notice for the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs Examination, 2026 says plainly that certificates in any format other than the ones annexed to the notice are liable to be rejected, and that a candidate without the required certificate is simply treated as unreserved. This guide explains the prescribed formats, the crucial date that decides your category, the financial year your EWS certificate must cover, the special rule for Delhi OBC candidates, and the warning about false claims.
The format is not optional
Paragraph 6.2 of the notice says candidates who want to be considered against reserved vacancies, or who seek age relaxation, must submit the certificate from the competent authority in the prescribed format whenever it is called for. Otherwise the claim for SC, ST, OBC, EWS or ex-serviceman status is not entertained and the application is considered under General.
The formats are annexed to the notice itself, and the notice states that certificates in any other format are liable to be rejected. A certificate on your state's own printed form, correct in every fact, can still be refused if it is not in the annexed format.
- SC and ST: Annexure-V.
- OBC non-creamy layer: Annexure-VI.
- EWS income and asset certificate: Annexure-VII.
The crucial date decides your category
Paragraph 6.6 fixes the crucial date for claiming SC, ST, OBC or EWS status, or any benefit such as fee concession, reservation or age relaxation, as the closing date for receipt of online applications. For SSC CPO 2026 that is 30 September 2026.
The notice is careful about what this means: you must belong to the relevant category as on that date. It does not refer to the date the certificate was issued.
OBC candidates and the creamy layer
Paragraph 6.3 requires an OBC candidate to hold the caste or community certificate and to be outside the creamy layer on the crucial date, that is the closing date for applications.
The notice adds a note in the candidate's favour: the Commission will not insist on an OBC certificate issued within the crucial or cut-off date, and the candidature of an OBC candidate remains provisional, subject to verification of the claim by the appointing authority. See our guide on the non-creamy layer certificate for how that document is obtained.
The EWS certificate must cover the right year
This is the detail that catches people out. Paragraph 6.4 requires an income and asset certificate valid for the financial year 2026-27, issued on the basis of income for the financial year 2025-26, in accordance with the Department of Personnel and Training's office memorandum of 31 January 2019.
An EWS certificate from an earlier year does not become valid because it is still in your file. Check the year printed on it before you rely on it, and see our guide on the EWS income and asset certificate.
A rule that applies only in Delhi
Paragraph 6.1 covers OBC certificates issued by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi to candidates listed as OBC by Delhi but not included in the central list. Those certificates are accepted only for the post of SI in Delhi Police, for reservation and age relaxation.
For every other post in this examination, such a candidate is treated as unreserved or EWS. If you hold a Delhi OBC certificate that is not in the central list, plan your preferences knowing this.
Your candidature stays provisional
Paragraph 6.5 says candidature remains provisional until the appointing authority verifies the certificates and documents relating to educational qualifications, caste or category, and finds them satisfactory.
The same paragraph carries a warning: candidates who fraudulently claim the status of SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ex-serviceman or departmental candidate of Delhi Police will be debarred from the Commission's examinations. This is not a risk worth taking for a few marks of relaxation.
What to do before 30 September
Take out the certificate you intend to rely on and check three things against the notice: that it is in the annexed format, that you belonged to the category on the closing date, and, for EWS, that it covers financial year 2026-27 on 2025-26 income. If any of the three is wrong, apply for a fresh certificate now rather than at document verification.
