SSC CPO 2026 Physical Test: Height, Chest and Running Standards

Many candidates prepare for the SSC CPO written papers and lose the recruitment at the ground. The Physical Standard Test and Physical Endurance Test carry no marks, but failing either ends the application. This guide sets out the standards exactly as printed in SSC's notice for the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs Examination, 2026: height and chest for each post, the running and jumping events for men and women, who gets relaxation and what certificate proves it, and the rules on appeals and ex-servicemen.

What the physical test decides

The selection has four stages: Paper-I, the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Endurance Test (PET), Paper-II, and the Detailed Medical Examination. The notice says the PST and PET carry no marks and are of a qualifying or elimination nature. You cannot make up a failed physical test with a high written score.

All figures below are from SSC's notice for the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces Examination, 2026, paragraph 12.10.

Height and chest: SI in Delhi Police

For men, chest is given unexpanded and expanded, in centimetres. There is no minimum chest measurement for women.

• Men, general: height 170 cm, chest 80 to 85 cm.
• Men from the hill areas of Garhwal, Kumaon and Himachal Pradesh, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, Kashmir Valley, Leh and Ladakh, the North-Eastern States and Sikkim: height 165 cm, chest 80 to 85 cm.
• Men belonging to Scheduled Tribes: height 162.5 cm, chest 77 to 82 cm.
• Women, general: height 157 cm.
• Women from the same hill areas and regions: height 155 cm.
• Women belonging to Scheduled Tribes: height 154 cm.

Height and chest: SI (Fire) in CISF

This post is for men only.

• General: height 170 cm, chest 81 to 86 cm.
• Hill areas of Garhwal, Kumaon and Himachal Pradesh, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, Sikkimese, Leh and Ladakh, Kashmir Valley and the North-Eastern States: height 165 cm, chest 81 to 86 cm.
• Scheduled Tribes, including Mizos and Nagas: height 162.5 cm, chest 77 to 82 cm.

Height and chest: SI (GD) in the CAPFs

The CAPF table has more categories than the other two, with separate rows for Gorkha candidates and for Scheduled Tribes of the North-Eastern States. Read it directly in paragraph 12.10.1.2 of the notice for your own category. Weight must correspond to height for every post.

The running and jumping events

The notice lists the same Physical Endurance Test for all posts.

• Men: 100 metre race in 16 seconds; 1.6 km race in 6.5 minutes; long jump 3.65 metres in 3 chances; high jump 1.2 metres in 3 chances; shot put (16 lbs) 4.5 metres in 3 chances.
• Women: 100 metre race in 18 seconds; 800 metre race in 4 minutes; long jump 2.7 metres in 3 chances; high jump 0.9 metre in 3 chances.

Relaxation needs a certificate

The lower heights and chest for hill areas and other regions apply only if you produce a certificate in the format of Annexure-VIII of the notice, from the competent authority of the district where you ordinarily reside. Without that certificate on the day, you are measured against the general standard. Get it before the PST, not after.

For SI in Delhi Police, a relaxation granted at initial appointment continues for as long as you remain in Delhi Police.

Appeals, ex-servicemen and women candidates

If you are declared not qualified in height or chest, you may appeal to the appellate authority present at the PST/PET ground. The notice says that decision is final, with no further appeal.

Ex-servicemen do not have to take the PET, but must pass the written tests, meet the physical standards and pass the medical standards for direct recruits.

Women candidates submit a self-declaration about pregnancy status when they report for the PST/PET. A woman found pregnant is declared temporarily unfit, her appointment is held in abeyance, and the vacancy is kept reserved for her until she is re-examined after confinement.
