BPSSC advertised 22 posts of Assistant Sub-Inspector (Technical) in Bihar Police Radio (Wireless), Patna, under Advertisement No. 07/2026, at pay Level-5. Applications were open from 21 May to 21 June 2026 and are now closed. Selection is through a two-stage written examination followed by a qualifying Physical Efficiency Test.
Where this recruitment stands today
Applications for Advertisement 07/2026 opened on 21 May 2026 and closed on 21 June 2026. That window is over, BPSSC stated clearly in the advertisement that it would not be extended, and no new applications are being accepted.
What remains is the examination. BPSSC has already published the list of rejected applications with reasons, so if you applied, check whether your form survived scrutiny before you start preparing. The whole selection process is expected to take around six months from start to finish.
What the post actually involves
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (Technical) works in Bihar Police Radio, the wireless wing that keeps police communication running across the state. Radio sets, repeaters, control-room equipment, and the network that lets a patrol vehicle reach headquarters, that is this cadre's responsibility.
It is a technical post at pay Level-5, and the appointing authority is the Deputy Inspector General (Wireless and Technical Services). Unlike general police posts, the written exam is built around your diploma subject, not general studies alone.
The 22 vacancies, category-wise
Of the 22 posts, six are reserved for women under the 35 per cent horizontal reservation, which applies only to women domiciled in Bihar:
- Unreserved: 8 posts, of which 3 for women
- Economically Weaker Section: 2 posts
- Scheduled Caste: 3 posts, of which 1 for women
- Scheduled Tribe: 1 post
- Extremely Backward Class: 4 posts, of which 1 for women
- Backward Class: 3 posts, of which 1 for women
- Backward Class women: 1 post
Eligibility as it was set
The cut-off date for age, qualification and every other requirement was 1 August 2025.
Candidates needed a three-year polytechnic diploma in one of four subjects (Electronics & Communication, Electronics & Telecommunication, Information Technology, or Electrical & Electronics) with at least 50 per cent marks, relaxed to 45 per cent for SC and ST candidates.
- Unreserved male: 21 to 37 years
- Unreserved female: 21 to 40 years
- Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class, male and female: 21 to 40 years
- Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, male and female: 21 to 42 years
- Bihar government servants with three years of regular service: five years additional relaxation
- Ex-servicemen: three years plus service period, subject to actual age not exceeding 57
Written examination pattern
The written stage has two parts, and both are entirely objective multiple-choice. There is negative marking of 0.2 marks for every wrong answer at both stages, which is worth planning around, blind guessing costs you.
Preliminary: one paper of 100 marks, 100 questions, two hours. Forty questions come from general knowledge and current affairs; the remaining sixty come from your chosen technical group. Questions are at polytechnic level. You must score at least 30 per cent to stay in the race, and candidates up to twenty times the number of vacancies are called for the Main exam, category-wise.
Main: two papers. Paper one is General Language, 100 marks, 50 Hindi and 50 English at intermediate level, ninety minutes, requiring a minimum of 30 marks. Note carefully that these marks do not count towards merit; the paper is only qualifying. Paper two is your technical subject, 100 questions, 100 marks, three hours, at polytechnic level, requiring at least 33 per cent.
The final merit list is prepared solely on Main exam paper two. Everything else either qualifies you or eliminates you.
Physical Efficiency Test standards
Candidates up to five times the vacancies, ranked on Main paper two, are called for the PET. It carries no marks (it is purely qualifying) but you must clear every event separately. Fail one, and you are out.
- Run: men: one mile (1.6 km) within 7 minutes; women: one kilometre within 7 minutes
- High jump: men: 3 feet 6 inches; women: 2 feet 6 inches
- Long jump: men: 10 feet; women: 7 feet
- Shot put: men: 16 pound shot, 14 feet; women: 12 pound shot, 8 feet
- Three attempts are allowed in high jump, long jump and shot put; the run is a single attempt
Physical standards
- Height, unreserved and Backward Class men: minimum 165 cm
- Height, Extremely Backward Class, SC and ST men: minimum 160 cm
- Height, women of all categories: minimum 155 cm
- Chest, men of unreserved, BC and EBC: 81 cm unexpanded and 86 cm expanded
- Chest, SC and ST men: 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded, with at least 5 cm expansion required in both cases
- Weight, women of all categories: minimum 48 kg
- Third gender candidates are measured against Backward Class standards
Medical examination: the stage people underestimate
Before appointment, every selected candidate goes through a medical examination covering eyesight, colour blindness, hearing, stammering, flat foot and knock-knee. The advertisement states plainly that a defect such as stammering or lisping makes a candidate ineligible for selection.
Colour blindness matters especially here. This is a wireless and electronics cadre, and colour-coded wiring is routine work, candidates who have never been tested often discover the problem only at this stage.
Married women found pregnant at the medical examination before the PET are not permitted to take part in the running and physical tests, and are declared ineligible on that basis. A declaration of non-pregnancy is required.
How merit and ties are decided
Merit is prepared category-wise from Main paper two marks. Where two candidates score the same, the older candidate is placed higher. If date of birth is also the same, the candidate with the higher educational qualification is placed above. If that still does not separate them, marks in the qualifying examination decide it, and finally the English alphabetical order of the name as written on the class 10 certificate.
Check your age for this vacancy
Your date of birth is used only inside your own browser to do this sum. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.
