UPSSSC has invited online applications for 208 posts in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), 134 Scientific Assistant (General Selection), 13 Scientific Assistant (Special Selection), 56 Lab Assistant (General Selection) and 5 Lab Assistant (Special Selection). Scientific Assistant posts carry Pay Level-6 and Lab Assistant posts Pay Level-4. UPSSSC PET 2025 registration number is required to apply.
What this recruitment is about
The Forensic Science Laboratory is where criminal investigation in Uttar Pradesh is actually settled. Blood samples, fingerprints, ballistics, chemical residue. Every piece of physical evidence in a case passes through an FSL bench before it reaches a courtroom.
UPSSSC has invited applications for 208 posts across two roles: Scientific Assistant and Laboratory Assistant. This is a science-stream recruitment, so unlike most UPSSSC drives it is not open to every graduate.

Pay and why the two roles differ
Scientific Assistant posts carry Pay Level 6, with a pay band of Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400. Laboratory Assistant posts carry Pay Level 4, Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100.
The difference reflects responsibility: a Scientific Assistant analyses and reports on evidence, while a Laboratory Assistant supports the bench, prepares samples and maintains equipment. If you qualify for both, the Scientific Assistant post is the stronger long-term choice.
The PET requirement: read this first
You cannot apply for this recruitment without a valid UPSSSC PET 2025 registration number. The PET score is what you log in with, and it is also what decides the initial shortlist.
This catches out many candidates every year. If you did not appear in PET 2025, no amount of eligibility on the science side will help. You are simply not able to fill this form. In that case, register for PET 2026, which is open until 1 September 2026, so that you are eligible for the next round of UPSSSC vacancies.
Who can apply
Candidates must be between 21 and 40 years of age, and must hold the science qualification prescribed for the post they are applying to. The exact subject requirements differ between Scientific Assistant and Laboratory Assistant, and are listed post-wise in the official notification. Check yours before paying the fee.

Common mistakes candidates make
- Applying without checking the post-wise subject requirement, and being rejected at document verification
- Entering marks or a year that does not match the marksheet
- Leaving the form to the last day, when the UPSSSC portal is heavily loaded
- Assuming PET 2026 registration works for this form: it does not; this recruitment uses PET 2025
